At National College of Ireland, many courses are designed to inspire students throughout their studies. A blend of theoretical and practical learning will help you feel at ease and confident that your CAO choice is the right one for you.

Ronan Oduntan is about to graduate. Below he shares how the BA (Honours) in Marketing Practice helped him expand his knowledge, and feel certain in his decision after being unsure about what he wanted to study.

How did you know Marketing Practice at NCI was right for you?

To be frank, I didn’t. I was not sure what I wanted to do, and I feel like many students going into post-secondary school education can relate to feeling unsure about their choices. Amongst the options that I had, I felt this was the most appealing and exciting course to study and I am happy that I did.

What did you gain from studying Marketing Practice at NCI?

So much! Mainly, and as expected, I learned so much about the broad range of marketing concepts. We spent time exploring each topic in depth, looking at how to apply these concepts to real life scenarios to see what does and doesn’t work.

You took part in the pop-up event in Swords Pavilions Shopping Centre in July 2025. What was the biggest takeaway from that experience?

The pop-up event we held in the Pavilions Shopping Centre was a great experience. Our project, ROCO Clean, was the ultimate sports boot cleaning kit, designed for players who want to keep their boots fresh, game-ready, and long-lasting. Our all-in-one kit included a small brush, a double-sided cloth, and bottle, all neatly packed in a hard shell case. I would say that the biggest takeaway was that some people will love your product and some people will not.

You must keep a level head in both moments; take the sales and build on them, and in the same way, when no one comes up to our stall, build on that as well by not being discouraged.

How did your Capstone Project motivate you?

The project spanned an entire year, and that motivated me as I knew that when the end of the year came and we were showing off our product, it would not purely be the product on display, but the culmination of the hard work that had been put in throughout the year. I was determined to have something physical to remind me of the work I put in throughout the year. There was so much natural motivation and inspiration to work hard on this project especially as it was the main defining grade of my degree and it was one of the last projects I would do in the degree, so I gave it my all.

Going forward, I would like to get a get full-time role that I can see myself both enjoying and progressing in. With everything that I have learned, I believe that the role would not need to be specifically marketing, but marketing related would be good, and that is what I'm striving towards.

What advice would you give CAO students considering Marketing Practice at NCI?

It is a great course for creative and expressive minds that are willing and eager to learn.

You will learn and develop detailed knowledge about all the marketing concepts, learning everything you need to both run a business and cater to every need from within the business and outside the business from a customer's perspective.

The course encourages you to meet new people and make friends. So, if you're willing to put yourself out there, you will definitely have the opportunity to make friends for life if you want that.
