Before starting my degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, I spent years building a career in operations management and business. I was the Deputy Operational Services Manager at Cavan Monaghan Hospital, leading a team of over 250 staff and managing various departments. I introduced systems like RFID tags for asset management and a tablet-based catering ordering system to boost efficiency.

The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) at NCI is currently open for applications for September 2025. Please see Springboard+ at NCI for further information.

Before that, I worked in the Medical Manpower department, where I streamlined processes by introducing electronic verification and training initiatives.

I kicked off my career at Boylesports, managing store operations and bringing in new betting machines. Along the way, I earned a Master of Business with First Class Honours, which gave me a strong foundation in business strategy and innovation.

These roles have really sharpened my skills in project management, team leadership, and IT, setting me up perfectly for my current focus on AI and Machine Learning.

Why did you decide to study a Springboard+ course?

I decided to study a Springboard+ course because, after doing really well in my role as Deputy Operational Services Manager, I noticed that many projects I was involved in heavily relied on technology. Tech always played a crucial role in enhancing efficiency and solving problems.

"Springboard+ offered the perfect opportunity to make this transition (into AI and Machine Learning), providing me with a solid foundation and the expertise needed to thrive in a tech-focused career."

I found myself constantly turning to technology for solutions and becoming increasingly fascinated by its potential. This realisation made me want to pivot my career towards tech, specifically in AI and Machine Learning, to deepen my knowledge and skills in this area. The Springboard+ course offered the perfect opportunity to make this transition, providing me with a solid foundation and the expertise needed to thrive in a tech-focused career.

Since starting the course, I've gained a solid foundation in AI and Machine Learning, which has significantly boosted my confidence and expertise in these areas.

"I'm excited about the future and the potential to transition fully into a tech-focused role, leveraging my new skills to make a real impact."

As a result, I've secured a position as Senior Project Manager with the HSE working on National level projects within the Technology and Transformation department. The requirements for the role were only met through doing the Springboard course. The programme has truly opened doors for me, providing new career paths that align with my passion for technology.

This shift has not only increased my career satisfaction but has also presented the possibility of a better work/life balance. I'm excited about the future and leveraging my new skills to make a real impact.
