Meet Ge Li! Originally from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province in China, he is studying the Higher Diploma in Web Technologies in NCI’s School of Computing in Dublin. Li recently celebrated his first Chinese New Year in Ireland and shared his experiences on the Education in Ireland blog. (Visit the NCI Facebook page to see some photos of this event.)
He said of the evening,
“The NCI Chinese New Year event was a lovely night and I was so happy to get a chance to share my culture with the others.”
25-year-old Li is one of three international students at NCI to currently serve as an International Student Ambassador, under the Enterprise Ireland 'Education in Ireland' programme. He, together with Alisha Dhiman, from India, and Franciele Firmina da Silva, from Brazil, will be sharing stories from his time here in Ireland.
Li said that some of his favourite memories of Ireland include
“Watching sunrise, feeling the breath of the city, listening to what the historical sites want to tell me. Talking with people here, and going everywhere I want to on my bike.”
In NCI, Li enjoys “the environment and atmosphere, and the location, which is right beside the river Liffey in the city centre. Nice people – I appreciated being collected from the airport when I arrived, and brought to the on-campus accommodation”. He also enjoys his computing course, and finds the lecturers "very professional", while the international office staff have been "of great help".
The International Student Ambassador initiative is aimed at raising awareness of the quality of Irish education, and assisting and encouraging interested students from overseas as they embark on their search for the right university or college.
