Studying abroad in Ireland offers high-quality education, a competitive economy, an English-speaking country in Europe, with a warm welcome and stunning landscape, making it an ideal place to pursue your studies while exploring a new culture.
Lan Ngoc, NCI’s Education in Ireland Student Ambassador from Vietnam, is currently studying the MSc in Marketing at National College of Ireland. She shares insights into her exciting journey studying abroad in Ireland along with how she immersed herself in Dublin's vibrant culture.
Meet Lan Ngoc
I am Lan Ngoc, which is a flower name in Vietnamese. I am currently pursuing an MSc in Marketing at NCI. I have found that Irish people are incredibly friendly and kind which makes me feel right at home here. Ireland’s landscapes are stunning and breath-taking. Each season boasts a unique beauty that truly needs to be experienced in person.
Why did you choose to study abroad at National College of Ireland?
I am a director of an English centre in Vietnam. I want to empower the younger Vietnamese generation to gain global skills through international education. While English schools in our country offer a great environment and curriculum, they often struggle to capture the interest of both parents and students. Returning to education, I hope to gain the masters edge in marketing to develop the English Centre further.
Choosing which country for as a study abroad destination is a journey. After a lot of research and attending many study-abroad workshops from different colleges, NCI made me feel the most cared for. The support from NCI staff has been remarkable, you truly feel the nurturing and professional learning atmosphere they have established. The International Student Support, Student Support Team and Careers Service assist students even from before their arrival to help them achieve academic success and to reach their professional goals. The events I benefited from include the Pre-Arrival Programme, Welcome Programme, Orientation, Getting to Grips Sessions, CV Clinics, Employer Fairs and many more!

What is the Education in Ireland (EI) Student Ambassador Programme?
The EI Student Ambassador programme is a Government of Ireland initiative aimed at raising awareness of the quality of Irish education abroad. Students Ambassadors share their experiences living and studying in Ireland with those who are researching their international study options.
Can you share some insights into being an EI Student Ambassador?
I feel extremely fortunate to have been chosen as a Student Ambassador for Education in Ireland. As someone who is deeply passionate about education, I am proud to represent Vietnam and share my experience studying in Ireland and NCI with future international students through vlogs and blogs.
Throughout the year, we had the opportunity to participate in cultural events, including playing traditional Irish sports like GAA football and hurling. I also attended formal events such as the launch of the Irish Global Citizens 2030 campaign and to meet Simon Harris TD, formerly the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science who is now the Taoiseach or Prime Minister of Ireland
At the end of my time as an Ambassador in Ireland, I was invited to an award ceremony where we wore our countries' traditional attire and received certificates. During the ceremony, we had the chance to meet representatives from embassies in Ireland. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with like-minded students who share a passion for education who represent their colleges and countries.
Can you share any memorable cultural experiences you had while studying abroad in Ireland?
Studying abroad in Ireland has allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture. I have never been to a country where the people are as friendly and warm as the Irish people. Everywhere I go, I encounter smiling faces, and the most common phrases I hear in daily life are 'thank you' and 'sorry’.
Some memorable experiences I had are:
- St. Patrick's Day: Celebrating this iconic Irish holiday was a unique and vibrant experience.
- Traditional Irish Music Sessions: Enjoying live traditional music in local pubs has been a wonderful way to relax and connect with locals.
- Playing GAA Football and Hurling: Playing Irish sport is the best way to connect to Irish culture in a deeper level and at the same time meeting new people.
