NCI computing student Naglis Montvilas is a talented athlete who represents Team Ireland in Powerchair, a version of soccer played in over 30 countries using specially modified powerchairs and an oversized football. Naglis is taking part in the Powerchair Football World Cup in Australia in October 2023, it will be his fourth time representing Team Ireland. The team has created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to travel to Sydney. The money raised will go towards flights, accommodation, playing kits and equipment for the Powerchair Football team.

Lunch & Learn is an initiative of the HR and EDI team at NCI, designed to allow people working in different areas of the College to share their expertise with their colleagues.

NCI academics take a lunch hour on the first Friday of each month to share their research (on campus and online) with other faculty, staff, students and alumni. The first First Friday of 2023 was presented by Dr Nicole Gross, Assistant Professor in Marketing, NCI School of Business.

It is almost impossible to find an industry or business in our world today that has not been changed by technological advancement in recent times. Whether you are a farmer using agricultural technology to improve crop productivity, or an accountant using automation software to reduce paper usage, technology has streamlined important processes in businesses, allowing them to be more efficient, safer and profitable.

This is a guest blog post by Dave Cormack, Assistant Professor, NCI's School of Business. Dave is an MBA graduate, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management and a long-standing Member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland. Having discovered that he is dyslexic late in life, Dave became an advocate of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland and shared his story during a webinar. He is also a founding member of NCI's Dyslexia Working Group which aims to lead on initiatives in this area.

There’s a new opportunity at National College of Ireland for someone who is looking to kickstart or advance their career in accountancy. Our new MSc in Accounting, starting in September 2023, will allow students to fast track their accountancy career by gaining generous examination exemptions from the professional accountancy bodies. This is a conversion course meaning students with undergraduate degrees from disciplines such as computing and engineering, along with those holding related qualifications such as business, can start or continue their journey to becoming a professional accountant by completing this full-time programme.

An MBA is an internationally recognised qualification that will enable you to position yourself to take advantage of career opportunities at the highest level of business. The MBA at NCI emphasises the development of business and management skills to solve problems through structured analysis, effective decision-making and strong communication and leadership skills.

As a teenager or young person starting your adult life, the choices you make, such as deciding whether to continue your studies to third-level and which college and course to choose, may be based on examples you see around you. For instance, you might think that you wouldn't be able to work at a desk job for 8 hours a day as you don't see examples of this in your life. As a result, you don't understand the rewarding challenges such a professional can face and the little wins that drive them to continuously learn and build new skills in their role, ultimately leading to personal growth and job satisfaction.
