A message from NCI President, Gina Quin March 2020 was all about future plans. The College was covered with flyers and balloons and it was impossible to walk through the Atrium without being surrounded by candidates for election to the students’ union canvassing for your vote. Noticeboards also advertised all the fun due to take place during rag week, to commence on March 23rd, and tickets for the Clubs & Socs Awards on March 28th; competing for space were posters about the latest in the series of careers’ events.

International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world today, Monday 8th March. It’s a day to celebrate women’s achievements, to raise awareness of gender bias and to work together towards a gender equal world. The 2021 theme “Choose to Challenge” brings these aims together by asking us to raise our hands high to show our support and commitment to calling out inequality to help create an inclusive world.

The team at National College of Ireland hosted an online event ‘From CAO to College to Career’ for Leaving Certificate students, their parents, and Guidance Counsellors. The event was designed to be a guide to understanding the connection between industry and third-level institutes, with the discussion focusing on the journey from first year in college through to the first day in a new career.

We are living in extraordinary times. Just over four weeks ago, all educational institutes were asked to close their doors to assist in containing the spread of COVID-19, and all our staff and students went home. The instruction came suddenly, we closed the same day as the Government announcement. But thanks to good continuity planning delivered through the hard work, cooperation and adaptability of staff and students, National College of Ireland was able to quickly move all its programmes to online delivery. At the same time, we were able to continue to provide access to library services, student services, academic support, disability support and our careers service, for all our learners.
